Hong Kong Diploma Examination(HKDSE)
In Hong Kong, after completing six years of secondary education, students can take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination to assess their academic level, which is equivalent to the mainland's college entrance examination. The first diploma examination was held in 2012, with school candidates being the main candidates. Most school candidates apply for four core subjects and two to three elective subjects, including Chinese language, English language, mathematics, and general education. There are a total of 20 elective subjects, including Chinese literature, biology, English literature, chemistry, Chinese history, physics, etc. The number of candidates taking the Diploma of Education Examination in Hong Kong has been decreasing year by year. In 2019, 56159 candidates took the examination, and 15971 students were admitted to nine universities in Hong Kong (University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, Education University of Hong Kong, and Open University of Hong Kong), with an admission rate of as high as 28%. Sub-degree
The associate degree program originated in the United States and has a history of over a hundred years. Associate degree is an independent and internationally recognized academic qualification. Associate degrees mainly offer two-year courses, and then allow students to choose whether to continue their studies at university. Generally, after continuing their studies at university for two years, they can obtain a bachelor's degree. This mode of further education has become an important component of Hong Kong's education system in recent years.
Fresh high school graduates or previous graduates from mainland China can apply to enroll in associate degree programs offered by multiple universities in Hong Kong based on their college entrance examination scores. After completing the associate degree program, students can apply to study in the third year of a bachelor's degree program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, City University, or other local universities, and then complete a two-year bachelor's degree program to obtain the corresponding bachelor's degree from the university. This study abroad method can provide another path for students who have failed the college entrance examination to enter well-known universities. If you are interested in applying, please pay special attention to the deadline. The quota is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
bachelor's degree
There are 5 universities in Hong Kong that have entered the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings. Mainland candidates can also apply based on their college entrance examination scores. Except for the Chinese University of Hong Kong and City University of Hong Kong, which are approved in advance through college entrance examination preferences, other Hong Kong universities need to apply on their own and undergo strict interview assessments. Of course, each university has its own different score requirements and English single subject score requirements. For example, the eligibility for application to the University of Hong Kong requires an English score of over 120 points (based on a total score of 150 points), and the total score for the college entrance examination usually needs to exceed the first tier threshold. Hong Kong's master's degree programs are divided into taught master's programs and research-based master's programs, with taught master's programs typically taking only one year to complete and obtain a master's degree certificate. After graduation, students can stay in Hong Kong to work or continue their studies overseas.
