Hong Kong Baptist University (English: Hong Kong Baptist University, abbreviated as HKBU), or HKBU for short, is a statutory public university in Hong Kong with a Protestant Baptist background. As a liberal arts university, HKBU attaches importance to teaching, research and social services. It has a State Key Laboratory for environmental and biological analysis built in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences to promote the development of scientific research. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, HKBU ranked 55th in Asia in 2018, becoming one of the top 100 higher education institutions in Asia. As for the 2018 QS World University Rankings, HKBU ranked 299th globally. In the 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject, the Geography Department of HKBU ranked 151-200 globally, and the Philosophy Department also ranked 101-150 globally.
At present, Hong Kong Baptist University has a Faculty of Arts, a Faculty of Business Administration, a Faculty of Chinese Medicine, a Faculty of Communication, a Faculty of Science, a Faculty of Social Sciences, a Faculty of Visual Arts, and a Faculty of Continuing Education. Since its establishment, Hong Kong Baptist University has been adding a number of innovative courses to complement the development of Hong Kong society. The more famous ones include Communication Science, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Social Work, Human Resource Management, and Politics and International Relations. The courses offered by HKBU, including Chinese Studies, Sports and Health Management, European Studies, Translation Studies, and Humanities, are also pioneering in Hong Kong. HKBU adheres to the philosophy of holistic education and is currently one of the best higher education institutions in Asia.
