The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, abbreviated as PolyU, is a public applied research university located in Hung Hom Bay, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The school's predecessor can be traced back to 1937 and was officially named the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1994. It is one of the eight statutory public universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC).

According to annual data released between 2019-2020, PolyU is ranked 159th globally, 20th in Asia, and 15th among the top 200 young universities in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. In terms of regional recognition, according to the results of the 2004-2017 Hong Kong University Public Opinion Programme survey, PolyU ranked fourth in the "Ranking of Colleges and Universities in the Eyes of Hong Kong People" and second in the 2016 "Most Willing University Graduates to be Hired by Hong Kong Employers" survey.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has 8 faculties, 27 departments, and over 20 research centers, including Engineering, Construction and Environment, Business Administration, Medical and Social Sciences, Humanities, Applied Sciences and Textiles, Design and Hotel and Tourism Management. The courses and research of universities are application-oriented and closely linked with the business industry. The number of students offered by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in its postgraduate, bachelor's, and non degree programs is the largest among all UGC funded universities in Hong Kong, with over 330000 graduates over the years.
